Phones
All retailers selling cell phones are
required to take them back. Please take your old cell phone to a
cell phone retailer.
Other Electronic Devices
The State of California has
tested and determined
that some discarded microwave ovens, VCRs, CPUs, printers, cell phones,
telephones and radios must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
Hazardous waste may not be disposed of in solid waste and recycling
receptacles. The table below lists those items which the State of
California has determined must be managed as hazardous waste.

Other, similar electronic devices have not been
tested and it is not known at this time if these items are also
hazardous. Until such time as test data is available or the items
are listed as "presumed hazardous" by the State of California, the IWMA
cannot advise you as to how to dispose of these items.
You may bring these electronic devices, listed in
the above table, to any of
the following locations and safely dispose of the items for free (households
only).
- Cold Canyon Landfill

Cold Canyon Landfill is located
about 6 miles south of the City of San Luis Obispo on Highway 227.
You can drop off your electronic devices 7 days per week.
The hours of operation are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Sunday.
The landfill is closed on major holidays.
- Chicago
Grade Landfill

Chicago Grade Landfill is
located 4 miles northeast of Atascadero off of Highway 41.
You can drop off your electronic devices 7 days per week.
The landfill is open Monday through Friday (7:30 AM to 3:00 PM), Saturday
and Sunday (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM).

Paso Robles
The Paso Robles Landfill is located on 8-1/2 miles east of Paso Robles
off of Highway 46 East. You can drop off your electronic devices Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Morro Bay Household
Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility Located at the Morro Bay Waste Water
Plant

west of Highway 1 (across from Morro Bay High School). You can
drop off your electronic devices every Saturday, 11:00
AM to 3:00 PM.
- Nipomo Household Hazardous
Waste (HHW) Facility

The Nipomo HHW Facility is located on Southland, which is accessible
from the Frontage Road, west of Highway 101 (south of the Tefft
off ramp). You can drop off your electronic devices every Saturday, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

April 2009 Sony Electronics introduced a recycling service which allows
consumers to recycle small electronics, including cameras, portable
music devices, small laptops, cell phones and portable gaming devices,
