JUNK MAIL
If you don't want it and won't read it, junk mail really is wasteful.
Below are three simple strategies for keeping your mailbox junk-free.
Many direct marketing services share or sell their customer lists to different
companies.
To Reduce Junk Mail
-
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is one of
the main United States organizations involved in compiling direct mailing
lists, and will remove your name from its members' mailing lists if requested.
Mail a written request including your name, complete home address and
signature to:

It is important to check the labels on your mail to
include all variations of your name when requesting that it be removed
from marketing lists. Lists are updated quarterly so it may take
a while to notice a reduction in your volume of mail.
- Credit reporting agencies' file information are frequently
used as a basis for developing mail lists. Consumers can follow a simple
procedure to "opt out" of inclusion in mail lists. By calling a toll-free
number you may request to have your name removed from a list. The special
"opt out" numbers are:
Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax:
1-800-353-0809 or 1-888-567-8688
Your request is good for two years. Additionally, you may request
a form that will allow creditors and insurers to take your name off these
credit bureau lists permanently.
- Enclose a statement in return postage paid
envelopes to get off lists you are already on. If possible, put the
exact address label from this particular company on the back of the note
or write your name and address on the back.
Cut and send a note such as the sample
note the next time you:
Order merchandize through the mail
Fill out a warranty card
Complete a consumer survey
Join an organization
Subscribe to a magazine
Renew your credit card

Opt Out from America Online*
CD Advertisement Mailing
If you would rather not receive those packaged CD promotions, a
free phone call to AOL Customer Service will remove you from future
mailing. AOL subscribers can call 1-800-827-6364 and non-subscribers
can call 1-888-265-8002. Just tell the friendly AOL Customer
Service representative you want to be removed from their mail list
and they will assist you. This only removes you from the advertisement
mail list. You can still take advantage of their promotions
and services by logging on to www.aol.com.
