Construction & Demolition Guidelines

New California Green Building Standards!

California’s Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) requires the diversion of at least 65 percent of the construction waste generated during most “new construction” projects (CALGreen Sections 4.408 and 5.408). Please see this table to see what the current requirements are. For more information on CALGreen, please refer to CalRecycle, and download this Informational Guide. Your jurisdiction's building department is the point of contact for up-to-date C&D diversion information.

Disposing of Construction & Demolition Materials

  • The landfills and transfer stations in San Luis Obispo County accept mixed loads of construction and demolition materials.
  • Several local businesses and organizations also accept construction materials for reuse or recycling – see below.
