Summer Internship Opportunity
Location: Hybrid, San Luis Obispo County-based
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week
Pay: $20/hour
Duration: ASAP through August 31, 2026
The San Luis Obispo County Integrated Waste Management Authority (IWMA) is seeking a part-time Summer Intern to support programs and activities that help reduce waste and preserve a safe and healthy environment in San Luis Obispo County.
This is an ideal opportunity for a student interested in environmental studies, resource management, sustainability, communications, or public service.
Responsibilities may include:
• Supporting IWMA staff with site visits to improve waste reduction and recycling practices
• Assisting with communications and responding to inquiries about sustainable best practices in SLO County
• Analyzing and compiling environmental data
• Helping prepare reports and presentations for local partners and regulatory agencies
• Reviewing program metrics and making recommendations to improve service delivery
• Supporting IWMA’s community outreach and engagement activities
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office
• Interest in sustainability, waste management, or environmental studies
• Clear and professional writing style
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Familiarity with San Luis Obispo County communities is a plus
