Packaging Face-Off: Egg Carton Throwdown

Three egg cartons with cartoon angry faces on a vibrant, comic-style background.

In today's Packaging Face-Off, three contenders enter the arena. Typically, eggs are sold in the grocery store in one of three packages: paper, plastic or foam. But which is the better choice?

From a disposal standpoint, foam egg cartons are the worst option of the three: they are not recyclable, and should go in the trash when they're ready to be thrown away.

Plastic egg cartons are a better choice. Like all hard plastics, they are recyclable in your blue bin.

Perhaps the best choice is paper egg cartons. They are typically made out of a paper pulp that is made of recycled materials, and once recycled they will be pulped and made into new paper again. They can be recycled in your blue bin, or if they get all slimy with eggs, you can place them in your green organics bin as well.
